Famous Egyptians Reflection

April 22nd, 2007 by Robbie in Egypt · No Comments

In todays class we all dressed up and said a speech pretending to be a famous Egyptian.  It turned out to be a very fun day seeing everyone in their different costumes and putting on a show trying to be like the person they chose.  I learned many things about the Egyptians, but my favorite thing that I learned was how one of the Egyptian queens dressed up like a man everyday and wore a fake beard to be accepted as “king”.  My favorite part of the class was when everyone came walking through the door after changing into their ancient costumes.  It was very cool to try and guess who they were doing.  If I were to do it again I probably would’ve liked to just volunteer at the very beginning instead of torturing myself sitting there all nervous.  Another thing that I should have done the first time is practice it more.  I was really nervous going up in front of the class after not practicing that much.

Famous Egyptians Speech

April 22nd, 2007 by Robbie in Egypt · No Comments

My Speech

Hello, I am King Khufu, the greatest pharaoh of all time! If you don’t believe me just look at all of the incredible things that I’ve done. I’m practically a god! I’ve nearly conquered several countries, I built the great pyramid and I ruled Egypt.

Many people think I was born near Cairo, or near Giza, but no one really knows where I was born. (And I’m not going to tell them). I will tell you that I was born somewhere around 2589 BC. Later in my life I became pharaoh, following in the footsteps of my father, King Snefru. His citizens, but who cares loved my father! You don’t get power from having citizens like you, you get power from controlling the city under an iron fist! I had three sons, my favorite named Kawab, but sadly he died during my reign. Khafra and Djedafra were my only hope for continuing my family being royalty, so I endured that they would be royal. Even if they did not survive to sit on the throne. I am the most significant of all Egyptians.

First of all I was the greatest of all the pharaohs. I wouldn’t call myself this if I hadn’t of done something incredible. I lead my team of soldiers into Sinai, Nubia, and Libya. I was so close to controlling the greatest African empire in existence, but it was not to be. Other than that I built the single largest building of Ancient Egypt. The Great Pyramid was perfect. It was my mark on Egyptian history. The pharaoh after me copied my idea to build a larger pyramid, he was close but did not succeed. He was a smart fellow though (not as smart as me), he built his pyramid on higher ground giving it the illusion that its taller. On my daily walk one day I was around the Sphinx admiring its glory, when I spotted The Temple of Isis! How great am I! I’ve made such a huge impact on the Egyptians.

I’ve made such a huge impact on everyone that I’m even worshipped as a god! My name even is Khum-Khufwy, which means The God. Even though I’ve made such an impact on Egyptian society the largest piece of evidence that they’ve found of me is only 7.3cm tall! This is treachery, I built such a vast and grand pyramid to hide my treasures in and as a way to the afterlife, and now it’s been robbed! I’ve expanded the Egyptian empire by hundreds of miles and I’ve made everyone’s lives better. I’ve made a landmark on Egypt that has lasted for thousands of years! Just think what would be so great about Egypt without my pyramid. Without me Egypt would be nothing!

My life has helped so many people. By far, I am the most important person ever to live in Egypt. No other people could even get close to my greatness. Not even gods! I’m more important than anyone, even Ra. Nobody actually knows much about me. Since my tomb was robbed in ancient times. So what do you think happened to me?

CNN.com. “Dozens dead, wounded in bombings across Iraq.” CNN.com. April, 16, 2007. http://.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/meast/04/15/iraq.main/index.html ( April, 16, 2007 )

Site Of Original Posting: http://emmalouise.learnerblogs.org/

How these two articles are connected:

These two articles are connected because they are both about bombs going off and people dying in the Middle East. Another way they are connected is that they are both about troops from North America dying in battle (or going to battle). The last way that they are connected is that they all involve insurgents planting bombs or setting off bombs to try to get rid of foreign troops in the Middle East.

What I found Interesting About The Topic:

The three main things that I found interesting were that I never knew that Canada had sent troops into Afghanistan. So this was all new to me. The second thing that I found interesting was that you always hear about Canada being a peaceful country and never getting into wars or getting involved with terrorists. This was interesting because this was one of the first times that Canada went to war (I think). The third one is that it was weird to see of that many incidents in one day. Usually only one or two might go off, but this time many bombs went off killing many people.

What I Liked About The First Post:

The main thing that I liked about the first article is thatit was something that I didnt know about.  It wasnt something that was shown on CNN or another news channel (atleast I didn’d see it).  And the second was that it was about a country that you never see anything happen to.  Canada has been known for being peaceful, but this was the first time that I’ve heard anything bad happen to it.

What New Info Has Emerged?

The new information that emerged is that there were about 9 new fatalities caused by the snow. Many traffic deaths have occured because of the ice that is forming on the roads. This is very dangerous because there are many people that are coming home from work early and trying to leave the area because of all the snow. Another danger is that the trees are loading up with ice, so much ice that the trees are breaking and causing a major risk for people out walking. About two feet of snow have been predicted to fall in the very near future. Another new discovery is that a nine year old girl was found dead after being hit by a falling icy tree branch.

What Did You Find Most Interesting About This Subject?

One of the things I found most interesting about this subject is that the amount of snow falling in these areas is really amazing. Another thing that I find interesting is that there are so many people that have died just from harmless snow, but I guess when it comes in mass quantities it can be deadly.

What Do I Like About The Initial Blog Posting?

One thing I liked about the intial posting is that it was really specific about exactly where the snow storm was. Another thing I liked was that some of the things that she thought would be useful to deal with the situation turned out to be exactly what the government did to prevent injury. ( Closing schools so people going to school wouldn’t be hurt and shutting down all the jobs).

Reflection 2

February 14th, 2007 by Robbie in Reflections · No Comments

In our ancient Africa Wikispace we did many things and it turned out very good.  In the end there was a couple of thing that could’ve been done better.  It’s very hard to pick something to change because we worked very hard on this Wiki, but if i have to choose something then I would say that we could have a little more info about all of the different empires.

One group that did a very good job on their Wiki is the Swahili Coastal Trading States group.  I think they did a fantastic job because they added a lot of pictures and visuals. That really enhances the site.

Reflection 1

February 13th, 2007 by Robbie in Reflections · No Comments

While making this Wiki I learned a lot of things. The main thing I learned was just how to use a Wiki. Before this I never actually make a Wiki or made any pages for one, I just wrote stuff for it. One thing that I thought was hard was finding enough pictures for the Wiki. Even if you searched on every search engine it was hard to find good pictures. One thing I found easy was getting all the info onto the Wiki. I think one thing I would change about the project is maybe having a little more time to do it. We would’ve made a better Wiki.

Map Of Event

1. What is the issue?

The issue in Florida is that many people have been killed and even more homeless.  20 people died and 13 of them near Lake Mack, while the 6 others near Lady Lake.  Now that about 1500 of the people in those areas are homeless there will be a major problem finding places for them to stay, as there was in Hurricane Katrina.

2. Who is involved?

The people that are involved are all the people in the two areas of Florida and all the of people trying to help them.

3. Who is affected and how?

The people that are affected are all the people whose houses were severely damaged.  They are affected because now they will need to find a place to live if not already.  The second way is that they may have lost some of their family members, and that affects people in many ways.

4. If I were Involved.

I think the best solution to this problem is to just do the best you can to try and save as many people and houses as possible.  Maybe set up camps for the people that lost their homes in the storm.  In the future I think many people  will be impacted by this storm because about 1500 people have lost their houses so they wont be able to live in this area again in the near future.  The second way is because many peoples family members have died in the storm. That will impact them because, they wont have their family anymore.

iMovie Investigation

The Story Of My Life

I was born in Mississippi and once I was one I moved to California and stays there for about 5 years with my cat, Bunkie. I met a lot of great friends there, but once I was 7 years old I moved to Malaysia, sadly leaving my cat behind with my grandparents, and stayed there for 2 years. After that I moved back to California and stayed there for 3 years hoping that I wouldn’t have to move again . . . but I did. It turned out that I would move to . . .Malaysia. . . again! So that’s basically where I am now.

iMovie

In iMovie I’m going to probably put in where I lived in the beginning and the friends I met there, then I’m going to put in some of the stuff I like and some stuff I think describes me. So first I would put where I lived first, Mississippi, then put that I moved to San Francisco and so on.

Challenges

I think one of the major challenges I’m going to face is just trying to use iMovie. This is really the first time I’ve ever used it in my life so it’ll be very hard. Another challenge will be putting the pictures in an order that I think best plays out my life. The last one will be using the pictures I have, to make the story of my life, which I think will be very challenging.

To Overcome The Challenges

To overcome the challenges I have I will have to work really creatively to use the 11 pictures I have to make the story of my life. To figure out iMovie I’m going to have to do lots of experimenting to figure out how to use all the different stuff to make my iMovie the best it can be. Coming back to the pictures it will be very hard to figure out how to put my pictures in a order that will play out my life, so I’m going to have to just think on that and see if I can do it, because I’m sure I can.

BBC”Curry Spice ‘Help For Arthritis’.”Oct 30/06. <http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/6090460.stm>Oct31/06

Facts From:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/6090460.stm

What Is The Issue:

Scientists have found that some of the spices in curry and other food can actually help arthritis.  At first they had to do many many tests to find out if it was true, and are still doing them at the moment.  The scientists do not know if when you eat curry it will help arthritis, but they’ve tested it on rats and it worked on them. As Dr Ann Barton, Manchester University, said  “Results of tests in animal models of arthritis are not always reproduced in human rheumatoid arthritis.”

Who Is Involvled:

The people who are involved are all the scientists researching curry’s spices,(curcumin) and that’s basicly it. Unless you count the lab rats who are being used for experiments…

Who Is Affected:

The people who are affected are all the people who currently have arthritis.  They’re all going to be affected for the good because now that there is something that can help people with arthritis they may not have to worry about it anymore in thier everyday lives. Plus, many people who get arthritis in the future will be affected because there will be something to help it and since it’s a natural spice there won’t be any side effects like the pills most people have to take.

If I Was Directly Involved:

If I was directly involved and I had arthritis I would be very happy.  I would think its great that somethings going to come out that will be able to help arthritis.  In the future people, with arthritis, will probobly be living a lot easier because they will be able to do more things and not worry about it anymore.
